Lead Veterinary Surgeon – Horsford

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join our well-equipped and spacious practice in Horsford. Previously operating as a 24-hour center, our practice provides access to specialized equipment, ensuring a high standard of care across a diverse range of procedures. With a mix of small animal and exotics cases (approximately 70-30 split), this role is perfect for a vet looking to lead a practice and broaden their skill set or an experienced vet with a keen interest in exotics.

Situated just six miles north of Norwich, Horsford offers an ideal balance of countryside living with easy access to city amenities. The village boasts a strong sense of community, with charming cottages and tree-lined streets creating a welcoming and tranquil atmosphere. Daily living essentials, including shops, cafes, and services, are conveniently scattered throughout the village. Well-connected via the A140 and A1270, Horsford has easy road access to Norwich, Cromer, Ipswich, and beyond. While Horsford doesn’t have its own station, proximity to Norwich allows for convenient rail travel across the country.

This is a permanent, full-time role with a 39-hour workweek over four days, including 1:3 half weekends. Flexibility is considered, so let us know your preferences.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to the veterinary team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Ensure all team members deliver quality and ethical care to patients and clients
  • Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose medical conditions, and formulate effective treatment plans
  • Perform a wide range of surgical procedures
  • Prescribe medication and offer expert advice to pet owners
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary ethics, statutes, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain patients’ medical records
  • Uphold compliance with all legal and ethical standards in veterinary medicine
  • Assist in recruiting and training new veterinary staff with support from relevant support centre teams
  • Manage the performance, budget, and overall profitability of the practice with support from regional teams

Your Skills and Experience: Clinical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in performing a variety of surgical procedures, from routine to complex
  • Experience diagnosing and treating a wide range of medical conditions in small animals
  • Experience in emergency veterinary care and managing critical cases
  • Familiarity with veterinary software, diagnostic tools, and medical equipment

Professional Skills:

  • Effective communication ability, enabling positive interaction with clients, team members, and other stakeholders
  • Clear and empathetic communication of medical procedures and treatment plans
  • Managing a caseload, prioritizing tasks, and effectively managing time
  • Collaboration with veterinary professionals, support staff, and specialists
  • Business-side skills in budgeting, resource allocation, client acquisition, and recruitment
  • Willingness to stay updated with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine through continuing education
